The chapter is organised in 6 main parts including this introductory section. In part two, I discuss the origin and politics as well as some of the core themes of the RTD. Part three examines China’s interpretation and implementation of the RTD and the impact this has had on poverty reduction.

Part four discusses the journey towards the recognition and implementation of the RTD in Africa as well as the jurisprudence of the African Commission. Part five explores what lessons Africa can learn from China and part six deals with the conclusion.
